This piece shows preparation on the parts of the dancers along with the orchestra. The coordinated steps draw in the audience who join in with hand claps, yelps of “ooh” and laughter.  There is a slight ritard just before the final iteration of the dance which has an accelerando to the end. The strategies used were to create a composition that recreated the sounds of the hurricane while poking fun at persons that were looting in its aftermath. The creation process included coming up with a melody and accompanying parts, then including sound effects to give it a realistic sound of a hurricane. In the same way, context in musical structure aids musicians and performers in conveying a “movie” when performing. Just like jazz musicians would follow an AABA or some variation of that style, other music does as well. One set of drums is the rhythm, the other is the bass. In this video, drummers explain their musical structure. They explain that the music is from South Africa, but they have modified it. They begin with vocals and the rhythm picks up as the spirit moves them. The more hype they get, the faster they play.
